Mr Roper read English Literature and Language at the University of Sheffield and completed his PGCE and teacher training through The University of Warwick and the Teach First graduate programme. Previously Joe has lectured at a Sixth Form College and taught English and Media Studies within the Arden Multi-Academy Trust.

He has been a Senior Leader at an inner-city school for a number of years, overseeing Pupil Progress, Literacy Provision, Rewards and Intervention and is involved in wider-support within the Arden Multi-Academy Trust

Key responsibilities: Policy and Key Strategic direction of the school; Financial Accounting Officer; Personnel; reporting to the Full Governing Body; Ofsted and School Improvement Priorities. Curriculum and Standards; Subject Line Management; Exams; Reporting and Assessment

 

Mr J Lowdon BA (Hons), GTP, NPQLBC, DSL

Deputy Headteacher – Behaviour, Pupil Progress, Attendance & Safeguarding (Designated Safeguarding Lead)

Mr Lowdon studied History at Manchester Metropolitan University and completed his teacher training as a PE specialist through Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln and their Graduate Teacher Programme.

Previously, Mr Lowdon worked as an Assistant Principal, responsible for Behaviour and Pastoral care and also has experience as Assistant Director of Sport and as a Head of Physical Education.

Prior to teaching, Mr Lowdon played Rugby at a professional and semi-professional level in the UK and South Africa.

Mr C Brough  BSc (Hons) Degree Sports Science and Geography. NPQSL

Assistant Headteacher – Raising Standards, Pupil Premium Assessment, Enrichment, SMSC, Head of Lower School 

Mr Brough studied Sports Studies and Geography at Worcester University and completed his PGCE training at Newman University. Previously Mr Brough has Lectured at Sutton Coldfield College and taught GCSE PE and A Level PE at Plantsbrook School.

He was SCITT coordinator and teacher governor for a number of years in his previous school and led the PE department.

Key responsibilities: Assessment, PP Coordinator, Enrichment and Subject Line Management.

 

Mr N Lunn, BA Hons, PGCE, CELTA, NPQLBC

Assistant Headteacher – Teaching and Learning CPD

Mr Lunn read Modern Foreign Languages at Merton College, University of Oxford. He has held a variety of roles in education, spanning pastoral and teaching and learning.

Mr Lunn was one of the original teachers on the “Oak National Academy”, delivering video lessons to hundreds of thousands of students during the acute phase of the pandemic, before leading on the design of a training programme to train other teachers to do.  

Before becoming a teacher, Mr Lunn was a civil servant working on regulatory policy in Whitehall.

Associate Assistant Headteacher – Specials Learning Needs & Disabilities

 

 

S Blyth BMUS (Hons), PGCE, SLE

Director of Curriculum and Director of Performing Arts

Miss Blyth studied Music at Surrey University and completed her teacher training at Birmingham City University. She has worked at Henley for a number of years in a variety of roles, both pastoral and curriculum, as a Head of Year and Head of Performing Arts.

As an accomplished musician she is a first study violinist and has performed in orchestras all her life. In addition to her passion for music she has taught many other subjects including mathematics and humanities and is committed to developing the whole child through her work on the Character Curriculum.

Mr J Pittaway BSc (Hons), PGCE (QTS), MA Professional Education

Director of Student Engagement and Head of Upper School

Mr Pittaway studied Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth and completed his PGCE through the University of Warwick. He then completed a Teacher Subject Specialist Training course to convert his teaching qualification to a Mathematics specialism.  

Mr Pittaway has completed a Master of Arts degree in Professional Education at the University of Warwick, where his research focussed on exploring the effectiveness of repeated suspensions. Before joining Henley-in-Arden School, he was previously Head of Key Stage 4 in a Worcestershire Secondary School.
